Info required please. My car has a plunger switch to the RHS of the rad, looking at it. It is actuated by the bonnet opening. What does it do? I can see no sign of an under bonnet light. If it should have one, where should it be? Also does the bonnet have a front edge rubber seal? It looks like it should. Thanks in anticipation!!

Thanks Nigel. Please excuse my ignorance, I've only had the car a couple of weeks and trying to tidy it up under the bonnet. I can see a small rivet at each side of the bonnet on the lip which tucks under. I guess these held the rubber. How far did the strips go from each end and were they there to just keep water from the side lights.

Thanks Nigel, I can sort that OK now. I've also noticed that the headlamp wiring and plugs are covered in crap, also the side light adjusting mech, so I might just put a short strip over them as well as the center. What does any body think about going all the way across? Still got a long way to go yet. Definitely needs a belly pan, but that will have to wait until i can find one. Shifted about a dozen mixed rusty roofing bolts and allen screws today from around the side lights, rad fixings, and washer bottle. Noticed the cam belt cover was attached with random scrap bolts, all different lengths and types! One other question. what is that thing called that is connected to the center of the dizzy cover. Is it a new fangled type of coil. If so why do you think my car has got two of them?

OK Nigel, This Thing must be on the 20VT as well. The wire, (ignition lead) comes out of the center of the dizzycap and heads, on old cars, to what would be the ignition coil. Could this be a modern version of an ignition coil? Hopefully I will eventually master posting pics on this site. Not got there yet! Thanks any way

Thanks Guys for bearing with me on this. I must try harder to get to post pics! OK Barnacle I think we are getting near. This car is a '95 16v NA. The center lead from the dizzy on the end of the exhaust cam goes to the coil, which does not look like any coil I've ever seen before, but hey what do I know!. Coils are about 120mm long and 50mm dia on my other cars! This thing looks like part of a National Grid Substation! From this coil there is a lead, as stated to the dizzy. The other lead is a multi pin plug. This is bolted to the battery box. Another one of these coils? is placed below this one. It looks a proper bodge up because of the roofing bolts and second hand meccano holding it on, but the lead to the coil is missing on the lower one, so is not doing any thing.. So I guess this poor car has been bodged here and I should just have one only, the original probably being faulty, but who knows! I'll get a pic on!

OK Barnacle. The whole engine bay is bodged!! I guess that the top one has been added because the bottom one is defunct. I'll strip it out eventually after I've cleaned up the mess. In the mean time i reckon I need one of those manuals in your signature, and start looking for some parts. Weird how people are. The body is as mint as it could be and it came complete with a purpose made cover and at least £2000 worth of wheels and tyres. The motor runs sweet with good oil pressure, but does use a drop! Cam box leaks oil of course. Bits of rubber gasket and white silicone hanging out of the edges! Oil pressure switch wires about 50mm off the floor!!

BBR sorry could not find your pic. Any way sorted it. Coil must have packed up under previous ownership. Genuine part with ignition module £230, Cheapo coil only £23 so leave old one in place with module and bodge on cheapo piggy back with roofing bolts!!!

It has got even better! I stripped both coils off the car and dismantled every thing. I then drilled out the rivets holding the fixing brackets to the cheapo. Undid the screws holding the duff coil to the aluminium heat soak and hey presto the cheapo was an exact replacement fit. Nice tidy job and saved £230!
